Haywood Ski Nationals to be hosted at Whitehorse Cross-Country Ski Club starting Saturday
Yukon is ready to host 500 athletes from all over Canada for the upcoming Haywood Ski Nationals.
Canada's best cross country skiers have been arriving in Whitehorse all week, and Competition Chief Claude Chabot insists the preparations were not difficult, but very tedious.
"What I call it was a ton of work." Chabot said. "We had a phenomenal volunteer crew out early in the season when we had some cold weather. We got our buddies at (Mt.) Sima out with their snowmaking equipment, (and) we saturated our stadium. (with snow)"
There will be 46 athletes from Yukon competing over the week long event.
Chabot adds there will be over 100 volunteers over the course of the week, and says that the trail is in great condition.
Whitehorse last held the competition in 2010.
