The Yukon NDP says they want to support teachers and students even more with their newest commitment on the campaign trail.
The Yukon NDP has announced plans to improve the territory's education system if they are elected.
Party Leader Kate White announced the party's plan to make investments in mental health and education supports for students in Yukon.
White says some kids will need different supports to succeed.
"My vision for education in The Yukon is a system that brings together many supports and options and provides a pathway to success for every kid, no matter where they live, how much money their parents make or what challenges they may face. In order to achieve this, we need to ensure that supports exist in our schools."
She says the NDP would hire 50 more Learning Assistance Teachers and Educational Assistants to support teachers in classrooms while ensuring each school in Yukon has a mental health worker on staff.
White also announced investments in french immersion programs.
"One of the things that have become clear is that the demand for french immersion has outpaced the availability. We're going to add new programs and I truly believe that we have the tools and the talent to offer world-class education here in Yukon. I want to build on that. I'm fully committed to reversing The Government's disastrous decision to eliminate Individualized Education Plans."
