Two dead, one injured after fatal weekend boating incident in Tagish

Carcross RCMP received a report of a boating incident from a man on board the boat on Sunday night. By Yukon RCMP

A 50-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman were killed early on Sunday morning after a collision with the Tagish River Bridge.

Two people were killed early on Sunday morning after a collision with the Tagish River Bridge.

50-year-old Martin Claude Pelletier, 26-year-old Candace Shantel Gordon, and an injured 28-year-old man whose name wasn't released were found near the Tagish River bridge by RCMP after officers responded to reports of a boating incident in an unknown area.

Investigators determined Pelletier was driving at the time the boat hit the bridge, causing critical damage to the boat.

Carcross RCMP seized Pelletier's boat for the purpose of the police investigation.

No cause has been determined as of yet, but police are considering visibility, conditions on the river, and impairment to be factored in the crash.

Police say the investigation is still ongoing.
