May 1st is the earliest opening date ever for Yukon campgrounds.
The Yukon Government has announced that territorial campgrounds will open as early as May 1st, 2021, depending on site conditions.
This is the earliest opening date ever for Yukon campgrounds. This announcement stems from a commitment in the government's Parks Strategy, which launched in 2020.
In the official release, Yukon Environment Minister Pauline Frost acknowledged that Yukoners have experienced a "long, cold winter," and that people are looking forward to camping and enjoying Yukon's parks.
The government says COVID-19 health and safety protocols will be in place at all campgrounds, just as they were in 2020, to keep Yukoners safe. This includes restricting people traveling to and from Alaska and not allowing self-isolation in government campgrounds.
YG says more details on campground openings will be available on yukon.ca in April.
