The Coroner says 73-year-old Leon Nepper went into medical distress at the Whitehorse Correctional Centre Sunday and was taken to hospital where he died.

Yukon's Coroner says a man accused of mailing a bomb to his brother on Vancouver Island has passed away.

Chief Coroner Heather Jones says 73-year-old Leon Nepper went into medical distress Sunday while in custody at the Whitehorse Correctional Centre and was taken to hospital

Jones says Nepper died just before 1:30 p.m.

Nepper was facing four charges in connection with a mail bombing in Port Alice, B.C. which injured his brother Roger.

On Friday, Nepper had charges of attempted murder, and aggravated assault filed on top of two charges of possessing and sending an explosive device.

Jones says an autopsy is set for Vancouver later this week.

Both the Coroner and RCMP are continuing to investigate Nepper's death.
